The Webster Memorial Trophy Competition is an annual event committed to declaring the “Top Amateur Pilot in Canada”. It was interrupted once by World War II and again in 1954 due to escalating administrative costs.

The grass around the runway and taxiways has dried considerably, however there are still many wet and soft spots. Please exercise caution when taxiing around the airport.

We now have several spot trackers for use for students/customers when they go on cross countries. One of the neatest features of the spot trackers is that it communicates the position of the airplane every 10 minutes, leaving a near real time “bread crumb” trail. Private Pilot Ground School begins January 6th, 2009

Our office addition is underway! We area adding 4 briefing rooms and 3 offices.

Accelerated Commercial Ground School starting November 3.
Monday and Wednesday at 6 pm. Total of 24 hours.
This ground school is designed to work with students on the Online Ground School and need a final “push” to write the exam. For students on the online ground school this ground school will cost $225, if you have yet to sign up for the online ground school, cost is $500 and would include online access

Another amazing race for the Harv’s Air team at the Manitoba Marathon!
Greg Penner came in 2nd place with a time of 2:36:31! (that’s to run 26.2 miles)!
The Harv’s Air relay team came through with flying colors! Congrats to Jon, Jordan, Thomas, Luke, and Steve! Congrats to Kerry and his son Kevin for running!

Our Flight Instructors:

One of the highlights of the Providence Aviation Program is the very long cross country. This year 7 students, 2 instructors, in 3 airplanes are going to Houston Texas, New Orleans Louisiana, and Waxhaw North Carolina! Follow their adventures through their blog!

Flight instructors needed. Interested in all classes of instructor ratings and Commercial pilots looking to obtain a instructor rating. Candidates could also work as linesmen/dispatchers as they obtain instructor rating. In last 12 months we flew 23,000 + hours with expanding single and multi engine fleet including EFIS training. There won’t be better time then now to start a flying career. Exciting times!

Another 172P has been added to the fleet. It’s registration is C-FSNV. It’s on the line now at St. Andrews.
Another Cessna 152 is currently in Steinbach being imported from the USA. Expected to be on the line by the end of February!

Pitts S2B C-FRDY is getting new fabric and a detailed inspection. All are welcome to check the project out in the hanger. The goal is to have the Pitts flying in time for the aerobatic season this summer.

Brad Perkins, the director of the Winnipeg FIC will give a talk the new weather products, flight planning, RCOs, DRCO, MF, ect. Lots of good stuff I’m sure. All students, instructors, rental pilots are strongly encouraged to attend!

Apply for the Neil Armstrong Scholarship. First place scholarship is valued at $7,000. Second place $3,000 and third place $2,000 toward flight training.

Wanted: Dispatchers/Linesmen. Duties include fueling airplanes, student pickups, phones, customer service, and hangering airplanes. Ideal for somebody looking for a start into aviation. All students are welcome to apply to adam@harvsair.com

Seminar: Air Deccan Pilot, Sandeep Cariappa returns to talk about his experience after leaving Harv’s Air 3 years ago. He will discuss his flight training, conversion process, initial airline type training on a Airbus, and daily airline life. This seminar is open to all Harv’s Air students and will be invaluable for Indian students. There is no charge for the seminar. Sat, June 30 at 1pm at the STEINBACH location.

We are excited to announce that we have added a Diamond DA40 with the Garmin 1000 instrument panel! This airplane is absolutely beautiful. The last few years have seen Harv’s Air grow at an amazing rate. Since our expansion to St Andrews (Winnipeg) our flight hours have more than doubled. I am very grateful to our students who have made this possible. It has been exciting to see students move into commercial flying positions both in Canada and abroad. Countries like India and China have seen the need for pilots increase at an incredible rate.

FAA (American Pilot Licence) conversions is now drastically easier and faster. In short if you have a FAA licence and want a Canadian pilot licence you have to get a Canadian Medical, and complete a air law conversion exam and then you’ll have a Canadian Licence. Details can be found here.
